AVESTIN C5 BIOTECH PROCESSOR

LAB SCALE, BATCHES 7ml TO 1L

Avestin’s C5 lab scale homogeniser rapidly reduces particles and droplets from micron to nanometer sizes. This precision Emulsiflex system is based on the principle of dynamic high pressure homogenisation.

The C5 has an air driven pump – providing homogenising pressure up to 30,000 psi (207 MPa). The maximum flow rate is 5L/Hr, with a minimum processing volume of 7ml, and a hold back volume of less than 1ml.

Homogenising Valve

The Emulsiflex C5 can be delivered with a dynamic or static homogenising valve. This can easily be disassembled for cleaning or inspection. Sub micron particles or droplets with diameters less than 50nm and an extremely narrow size distribution can be achieved.

Unique design

The beauty of the Emulsiflex design lies in its simplicity! No “O” rings. No gaskets. These user friendly homogenisers are simple to clean (clean-in-place, steam-in-place). The homogenising valve parts can readily be removed for inspection.

Filter/Extruder

The Emulsiflex C5 can be equipped with a high pressure filter/extruder. Applications include the extrusion of emulsions or liposomes through membranes and sterile filtration at high pressure.

AVESTIN LIPOSOFAST

RAPID SMALL VOLUME LIPOSOME PROCESSOR

The LiposoFast extruder allows the research scientist to rapidly process small volumes of liposomes with almost complete sample recovery. A suspension of large multilamellar lipid vesicles is loaded into the glass syringes and manually extruded back and forth through a defined pore diameter membrane.

This simple instrument can prepare 0.2 to 1.0mL batches of liposomes. The processing of a sample normally requires 10 to 20 passes and takes about 5-10 minutes.

Membrane pore sizes

The LiposoFast is delivered with a box of 50 polycarbonate membranes having a pore diameter of 100nm. Additional membranes are available with pore sizes of 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1000nm and 5 µm.

Cleaning

The components contain glass, Teflon, viton and stainless steel. They are easily cleaned and the entire instrument is autoclavable.

Temperature control

The whole extruder can be immersed in a temperature-controlled water bath to warm lipid suspensions above their transition temperature or to protect heat sensitive compounds.

Scaling-up

Production of larger volumes of liposomes by homogenization and extrusion can be accomplished with the EmulsiFlex Dynamic Processors.
