Rheology
Gemini research rheometer
The Gemini rheometer features Malvern's patent pending Rotonetic,
an adaptive control technology which is optimised for both strain
and stress controlled operation. The broad torque range extends
to 200mNm making the Gemini suitable for a wide range of applications.
A new high resolution torque mapping system and the inherently low
bias air bearing technology allow low torques to be set extremely
accurately.
The Gemini is available with a full range of temperature controllers
which include peltier devices, a forced gas oven with optional liquid
nitrogen cooling, electrical heating and a range of liquid circulators.
This allows testing on a full range of materials including polymer
melts, composites, fluids and semi-solids.
The Rotonetic drive enables testing in all conventional strain
and stress controlled modes including stress relaxation, creep and
viscometric modes. Oscillation testing is available in either direct
strain or stress controlled modes. Direct strain operation of oscillation
allows preset strain amplitudes to be imposed upon the test sample
without iteratively adjusting the stress on a cycle-by-cycle basis.
A new feature, partial wave sampling, also enables rheological data
to be gathered using just part of a full oscillation cycle. When
used in conjunction with direct strain control, partial wave sampling
makes low frequency testing far less time consuming and more practical.

Visco 88 viscometer
The Bohlin Visco 88 Viscometer is easy to use and provides accurate
viscosity measurements at single or multiple shear rates.
The design facilitates a wide measuring range from low viscosity
fluids through to viscous pastes. It's ideal for routine QC testing
, although the large measuring range also makes it suitable for
basic development applications. The Visco 88 is supplied with a
rechargeable battery unit so that it is completely portable for
measurements in the field or in the production area.
The Visco 88 viscometer is supplied as a stand alone unit with
three DIN concentric cylinder measuring systems. It can be easily
interchanged as a cone and plate system, and using the Viscosoft
software can be controlled from a computer.

DSRII Asphalt rheometer
This world renowned Bohlin asphalt rheometer is the industry standard
dynamic shear rheometer for SHRP and AASHTO asphalt testing.
Developed in close cooperation with SHRP researchers, this asphalt
rheometer offers precise and accurate unattended operation. It has
been designed to minimize the time required to make each measurement
according to AASHTO TP5.
Temperature Control - Bohlin's pioneering design
Bituminous materials are extremely temperature sensitive. Small
temperature gradients in the sample and errors between the sensor
temperature and the mean sample temperature can render rheological
data unreliable.
To overcome this problem, the Bohlin DSRII uses a patented system
which completely immerses the sample in a temperature controlled
fluid, complying fully with the SHRP testing protocol.
Gap Setting - Simple and thermally stable
The gap can easily be changed to any required value and does not
require continual resetting, thus optimising sample throughput and
eliminating operator error. There is a choice of mechanical or air
bearing
Software - Routine and Research
The standard Windows software is easy to use for specification and
grade determination testing. Optional research software is available
for expansion into a full research grade unit.
The following tests are available:
- Oscillation as a function of time, temperature, frequency and
shear stress.
- Viscosity as a function of shear rate, shear stress, temperature
and time.
- Creep and Creep Recovery (for compliance measurement and analysis).
- Time Temperature Superposition and Viscoelastic Analysis.

RH2000 Capillary rheometer
The RH2000 bench top capillary rheometers are compact and provide
most of the testing requirements of capillary rheometry. They are
available in both single bore or twin bore configurations and incorporate
many of the features of floor standing models. A new digital drive
system gives excellent performance in terms of speed control, accuracy
and dynamic operating range. This new hardware is supported by the
latest generation of 32 bit Windows™ based software with many new
experimental possibilities.
